Further witnesses and expert opinions expected in Ofarim trial
The trial against the Jewish musician Gil Ofarim for defamation and false accusation will continue today (9.00 a.m.). According to a spokesperson for the Leipzig Regional Court, eyewitnesses to the incident in a luxury hotel in Leipzig are scheduled to testify first. An expert opinion on the video recordings in the lobby is also expected.
The musician had made accusations of anti-Semitism against a Leipzig hotel in a viral video in October 2021. According to the Leipzig public prosecutor's office, however, the incident did not take place in this way. After extensive investigations, Ofarim was charged. The case against the hotel manager was dropped.
Despite the ongoing trial, some people continue to express support for Gil Ofarim through music, expressing their belief in his innocence. The processes involved in the case have highlighted the importance of thorough investigation in addressing allegations of crime.
