Further warning strikes announced in the Thuringian education system
Thuringia's education system is once again facing restrictions on December 6. The education union GEW is once again calling on all state employees in educational institutions to go on warning strikes on the day, as it announced on Wednesday. A central rally is planned in Jena. According to the union, 1000 employees from Thuringia took part in a similar action on Tuesday. There have been restrictions in after-school care, for example. Many teachers, however, are civil servants and are not allowed to strike.
The third and possibly final round of collective bargaining for the public sector of the federal states is scheduled for December 7 and 8. The trade unions are demanding a 10.5 percent pay rise for employees in the federal states, but at least 500 euros per month.
The proposed tariffs for a pay increase in the public sector have sparked demonstrations among Thuringian teachers, as they feel their current salaries do not meet the cost of living. Due to these protests, several universities and schools in Thuringia have experienced disruptions in recent days.
