Further warning strike at university hospitals in the north

University hospitals in Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are to go on strike on Friday. The trade union Verdi had called for warning strikes at university hospitals nationwide, according to Verdi spokesman Frank Schischefsky. The hospitals in Kiel, Lübeck, Rostock and Greifswald are affected.

Just last week, 700 employees went on strike at the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein. It is not yet possible to say how many employees will take part in the actions in the two federal states this time.

Verdi is demanding 10.5 percent more income for employees in the public sector in the federal states, but at least 500 euros more per month. Junior staff are to receive 200 euros more and trainees are to be taken on indefinitely.

Another state-wide warning strike is to take place in Schleswig-Holstein on December 6, before the third round of negotiations begins on December 7.

In the second round of negotiations, the Tarifgemeinschaft deutscher Länder, with its chief negotiator, Hamburg's Senator for Finance Andreas Dressel (SPD), made it clear that it considers the union's demands to be far too high and unaffordable.

The striking trade union Verdi has also announced a warning strike at hospitals in Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, potentially leading to disruptions in healthcare services. The ongoing series of strikes at university hospitals, including those in Kiel, Lübeck, Rostock, and Greifswald, highlight the ongoing dispute between Verdi and the Tarifgemeinschaft deutscher Länder over wage increases.
