Fürth coach warns: "Don't just tick off before Christmas"
SpVgg Greuther Fürth coach Alexander Zorniger has clear ideas for the Advent season. "Don't just tick it off just before Christmas," said the coach of the second-division soccer club, "don't just get stuck in somehow, but get back up to temperature straight away, be there again immediately." After the international break, the Franconians continue on Sunday (1.30pm) with a home game against SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
"I'm really looking forward to it, especially because I'm meeting a good friend in Markus Kauczinski," said Zorniger about his fellow soccer coach. "He's one of the very few totally unpretentious coaches at this level who has led his team up from the third division and has played a very strong round so far."
The promoted team impresses with a "totally unpretentious style of play" and is very strong in tackles. "They have the best defensive values in their own defensive third in the league, without there being rows and rows of solid bloodbaths, which is how they get the points," said Zorniger. "They know exactly what they can and can't do. That always helps you to get points."
Both opponents already have 21 points to their name. That is more than twice as many for Fürth as a year ago, when the team was bottom of the table at this point. "We're very happy with the 21 points," said the 56-year-old. "Together with the spectators, we definitely want to extend this points cushion and stay in contention in the away games."
SpVgg Greuther Fürth will face Fortuna Düsseldorf in the Bundesliga 2 soon, as both teams have impressive point totals. Coach Zorniger commends Fortuna's "totally unpretentious style of play" and their strong defense in their own third.
After securing 21 points so far, SpVgg Greuther Fürth aims to maintain their points advantage and challenge for positions higher up in the Bundesliga 2 table, even in away games.
