Arrest - Fugitive murderer in Southeastern Europe apprehended

Nine months after his escape from the Justice Facility Bruchsal in Karlsruhe, a convicted murderer was apprehended in Chisinau, the capital city of the southeastern European republic of Moldova, according to the Baden-Württemberg Justice Ministry. The operation in Chisinau was successful. Previously, the "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" and "Stuttgarter Zeitung" had reported on this.

The 44-year-old man had escaped during a monitored exit from the Justice Facility in Germersheim, Rhineland-Palatinate, at a gravel pit lake. His electronic ankle monitor was found shortly afterwards in the city of Germersheim.

The man was serving a life sentence in the Bruchsal prison. He had allegedly caused harm to a 44-year-old person, as per the Karlsruhe Regional Court. At the gravel pit lake, he had met with his wife and children. It was the eighth time he had been accompanied by the Deutsch-Kasachen.

Issues during the exit allowed the man to escape despite being monitored by two employees of the Justice Facility Bruchsal, the Justice Ministry admitted following the incident. Disciplinary measures had been taken against the two Bruchsal Justice Facility employees recently. They are still in service at the Bruchsal Justice Facility according to the Ministry.
