Crime - Fugitive murderer comes forward in videos
Two videos allegedly showing the convicted murderer, who has been on the run for more than five weeks, are available to the Pforzheim public prosecutor's office and the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office (LKA). The authorities gained knowledge of the short videos through the press, as a spokesperson for the public prosecutor's office announced on Wednesday. The German-Kazakh prisoner had escaped from Bruchsal Prison at the end of October during a guarded excursion to a quarry pond in Germersheim, Rhineland-Palatinate.
The "Heilbronner Stimme" and the "Südkurier", among others, had previously reported on the videos. In them, the fugitive claims that he is a victim of justice and wants to have his trial reopened, the newspapers report. The man was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Karlsruhe Regional Court in 2012 for strangling a 44-year-old man. He is still wanted throughout Europe.
For the public prosecutor's office and the LKA, the recordings are initially further evidence. It has to be checked whether the fugitive can really be seen on it, said the spokesman. The public prosecutor's office itself had not been contacted by the man. For reasons of investigative tactics, the authorities did not wish to comment further for the time being.
