Fugitive criminal from Spain caught in Franconia
A fugitive criminal from Spain has been caught by the police in Rothenburg ob der Tauber (Ansbach district). According to police reports on Thursday, a European arrest warrant had been issued for the 36-year-old. He had been sentenced to nine years in prison by a Spanish court in 2020 for a sexual offense committed in 2015. However, the martial artist had evaded the Spanish authorities and was wanted throughout Europe.
According to the police, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) provided information to the Rothenburg ob der Tauber police station that the man could be in the town in central Franconia. He was arrested on November 17, brought before a judge the next day and then taken to a prison. Extradition proceedings are currently underway, said a spokesperson for the Nuremberg Public Prosecutor General's Office.
The criminal's evasive actions had led him to central France before he was ultimately apprehended in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Despite being wanted for a severe crime in Spain, he had been living under the radar in central France, but his time on the run came to an end in Franconia.
