Handball - Füchse with home cup rights: quarter-final against Gummersbach
The Füchse Berlin have a good draw for the quarter-finals of the DHB Cup. The handball Bundesliga club will play VfL Gummersbach on February 3 or 4 - and in their own arena. The last time the Füchse were able to play a home game in the cup was four years ago in the round of 16 against SC Magdeburg (31:30).
"Finally a home game in the quarter-finals again after so many years. I'm really looking forward to the clash, especially after the Bundesliga game in Gummersbach, which we unfortunately couldn't win," said managing director Bob Hanning.
Coach Jaron Siewert was also pleased "to be able to play in front of our fans". However, the coach warned: "But I don't want to talk about luck of the draw, because Gummersbach is a strong Bundesliga team and was extremely confident yesterday in the round of 16, and they've already taken a point off us this season."
The Foxes had played 30:30 in Gummersbach at the end of October. In the round of 16, the Foxes had won 42:33 at SG BBM Bietigheim on Tuesday, while Gummersbach beat Frisch Auf Göppingen 33:28 a day later. The top match of the quarter-finals will be a rematch of the last final between SC Magdeburg and Rhein-Neckar Löwen. The Final Four will take place on April 13 and 14 in Cologne.
