Handball - Füchse Berlin easily reach cup quarter-finals

The Füchse Berlin have easily reached the quarter-finals of the DHB Cup. The runners-up in the Handball Bundesliga won their round of 16 match on Tuesday at second division leaders SG BBM Bietigheim by a clear 42:33 (19:16). The quarter-final matches will be drawn on Thursday. Berlin's best scorers were Mathias Gidsel with eleven goals and Tim Freihöfer with seven.

The visitors from the capital began very unfocused and made numerous technical errors and lost possession. They hardly got up to speed and repeatedly had problems pulling back. As a result, there was initially little sign of a difference in class. The first-division side even trailed after just under 15 minutes (6:7).

However, the Foxes then improved and played more consistently. And they were able to rely on the saves of goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev. The Berlin club had pulled five goals ahead after 25 minutes (17:12). However, renewed lapses in concentration allowed the home side to close the gap again before the break.

After the break, the visitors increasingly exploited their individual superiority and punished Bietigheim's mistakes coldly. After 47 minutes, the Foxes had pulled nine goals ahead (34:25). They then shifted down a few gears, but remained in command until the end.
