Füchse Berlin concede their first defeat of the season in Kiel

The Füchse Berlin have conceded their first defeat of the season in the German Handball League. In their twelfth game, the Berliners lost a clear 26:30 (10:14) at record champions THW Kiel on Sunday. This means that SC Magdeburg can still overtake the Foxes with a home win against Eisenach in the evening. Berlin's best scorers were Mathias Gidsel with nine goals and Mijajlo Marsenic and Lasse Andersson with five each.

After recovering from a torn ligament in his foot, Max Darj was back for the visitors. A fast-paced and intense game developed from the outset. Goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev was on hand with several saves, but they found it very difficult in attack against Kiel's very aggressive and offensive cover. It was not until five minutes had elapsed that they got their first shot on target.

But the defense stood firm. As a result, the Berliners took the lead for the first time after eleven minutes (6:5). However, the visitors made an increasing number of technical mistakes shortly before the break. Kiel capitalized on that with a 6:1 run and was able to pull away for the first time before the break.

Kiel initially maintained the lead after the break. However, they too suddenly made mistakes and the Foxes were back to within one goal (21:22). However, the home side failed to equalize on several occasions. Veteran Hans Lindberg, for example, missed two seven-meter penalties. And that took its revenge. Kiel was able to pull five goals ahead again (27:22) with just under six minutes remaining. And that was the deciding factor.

Despite their best efforts, Foxes Berlin couldn't prevent THW Kiel from extending their lead in the Bundesliga, as they lost their first match of the season to the record champions. Max Darj returned for the visitors, but it was Kiel's aggressive defense and offense that proved to be their downfall, with Handball Bundlesliga's top scorer Hans Lindberg missing crucial penalties.
