Winter weather - Frost continues to hold Germany firmly in its grip - up to minus 8 degrees expected in Bavaria
The wintry weather is set to continue in Germany next week. Warm air masses are only expected from the west, according to the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach on Sunday. This will lead to an increased risk of black ice in transitional areas. The DWD meteorologist Marcus Beyer said that the weather would gradually become milder, but not permanently.
"Towards the north-east and south-east in particular, it will probably be difficult to clear away the cold air by the end of next week, so it will often remain permanently frosty there." According to the weather forecast, localized freezing rain with black ice is to be expected at the beginning of the week. In the west and southwest, however, there are signs of a thaw.
Weather from Monday: cold and fresh snow in low mountain ranges
Highs along the Rhine are expected to be between 1 and 5 degrees, otherwise between minus 3 and 1 degree. In southern Bavaria it will be much colder, with temperatures between minus 8 and minus 4 degrees. On Tuesday night, the DWD expects more than ten centimetres of fresh snow and severe frost in the western and central low mountain ranges. During the day, there will also be fresh snow in the Black Forest from an altitude of 600 meters.
Wednesday will also bring freezing rain in the north-east and fresh snow in the mountains, according to reports. North of the Erzgebirge and right next to the Alps, on the other hand, it could be sunny. Temperatures will be a maximum of 3 to 6 degrees in the west and around 0 degrees in the northeast.
Wind, rain and black ice
Thursday will be calm, with isolated gusts of wind in the mountains and on the North Sea islands. On Friday, however, storms are possible again: freezing rain and black ice are to be expected from Thuringia and Saxony to the Alps and Lake Constance.
