Weather - Frost and snow do not lead to traffic chaos
Despite renewed snowfall and frosty temperatures, the roads in Lower Saxony remained quiet on Tuesday night and in the early morning. There were icy accidents in some regions - especially in the Oldenburg area with ten accidents reported in the morning. However, there were only fender benders, according to police spokespeople.
"We always fear the worst in these weather conditions, but at the moment it is still limited," said the spokesperson from snow-covered Bremen. The police in Hanover said that accidents were not exceeding normal levels. A spokesman from Braunschweig explained that he only had an empty note to announce.
The German Weather Service is reporting up to ten centimetres of fresh snow on Tuesday with temperatures between zero and minus two degrees. Overall, there is an increased risk of icy conditions. Temperatures are expected to rise well above zero again from Wednesday.

In contrast to the predictions, the police in Hanover reported that the number of accidents was not unusually high, aligning with normal levels. Despite the snowfall in Bremen, the spokesperson acknowledged a concern for worst-case scenarios but admitted that the situation remained manageable. The Oldenburg area experienced ten reported accidents in the morning, all resulting in minor fender benders. Thankfully, traffic in Lower Saxony remained mostly unaffected by the frost and snow, with little to no disruptions reported. Despite the increased risk of icy conditions, the north of Germany, including regions like Bremen and Oldenburg, experienced no significant traffic accidents.
