- From second to second: Mehlem moves to England

Football professional Marvin Mehlem leaves second division side SV Darmstadt 98 after seven years and moves to England. The 26-year-old midfielder will now play in the second tier for Hull City, Darmstadt announced on Thursday evening. "We did everything to convince him to stay, but he confirmed his desire to move on," said sporting director Paul Fernie.

"Marvin's development is the next good example of players being able to grow in peace in Darmstadt. But it's also important that we, as in this case, benefit financially at the end of the road together." No details on the transfer fee were given.

Mehlem joined Darmstadt as a 19-year-old and scored 21 goals in 191 competitive games. He also set up 31 more and helped the team promote to the Bundesliga in the 2022/2023 season. Two fibula fractures last season forced him to take longer breaks.

"I got to play in the Bundesliga and score my first Bundesliga goal, things you dream of as a kid," said Mehlem. "I felt very comfortable in this family-like club over the years and have many connections to the club and the city. That's why I extended my contract several times."

Marvin Mehlem's impressive career at Darmstadt 98 has earned him a move to a higher tier, as he will now play for a team in The United Kingdom, specifically Hull City. Despite Darmstadt's efforts to keep him, they will also benefit financially from his transfer.
