A French comedy titled "The Marching Band - En Fanfare" scored the grand prize at the 34th annual International Film Festival Emden-Norderney. Director Emmanuel Courcol's project was represented by Torsten Frehse from a German film distribution company at the awards ceremony on Sunday evening at the Emden Festival Hall. This news was shared by the organizers of the event. The film revolves around the uneven brother duo striving to emerge victorious in a national music competition, highlighting their brass band. The winners in the top three film categories, worth a whopping 15,000 euros, were decided through a public vote.
In previous years, another French film named "Divertimento - An Orchestra for Everyone" secured the main prize of the festival. The silver award went to "Arctic Convoy," a Norwegian drama set during World War II at the same event. "Love Letters from Nice" was the third-placed film in the competition this year. A total of 18 films competed for the Bernhard Wicki Score Award. The organizers presented a total of 65,500 euros in prizes across eight competitions in 2022.
During the gala event, Lars Eidinger was bestowed with the Emden Acting Prize. The 48-year-old accepted the accolade himself. Prior to his acceptance speech, director Franziska Stübel gave praise to the actor for their collaborative work on the film "Nahschuss" (2021). Additionally, six films featuring the actor are being screened as a cinematic homage at the festival.
This year's film extravaganza is showcasing 51 feature-length and 34 short films. The festival continues until Wednesday.
