Freighter dumps waste in Baltic Sea: proceedings against officer
After disposing of waste in the Baltic Sea, the chief officer of a cargo ship is facing misdemeanor proceedings. The ship, flying the flag of Cyprus, illegally disposed of some of its waste in the sea, the Rostock water police announced on Saturday. This is a violation of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships. The chief officer had to pay a four-figure sum of money as security.
The illegal waste disposal by the ship led to environmental pollution in the Baltic Sea. Due to this incident, stricter regulations on shipping-related waste management may be considered to prevent future environmental pollution.
