Freiburg's Streich wants to secure a merry Christmas with victory

SC Freiburg have bad memories of their last clash in Wolfsburg. This time, the team from Baden want to do better - and not let the pressure build up in the first place.

Trainer - Freiburg's Streich wants to secure a merry Christmas with victory

In the final spurt before the winter break, coach Christian Streich attaches particular importance to SC Freiburg 's away game at VfL Wolfsburg. "We absolutely want to win in Wolfsburg so that we can take it easy for a few days at the end of the year," said the 58-year-old ahead of the Bundesliga clash on Saturday (3.30pm/Sky). "We don't want to come under any pressure. I know it and I want it less and less every year as I get older," he explained. The game in Wolfsburg offers a "huge opportunity" to lay the foundations for a good Christmas.

However, Sport-Club have bad memories of their last trip to Wolfsburg. In the first game after the long winter break following the World Cup in Qatar, the Baden club lost 6-0 at VfL in January. In May, SC then won 2:0 in their own stadium.

This season, Sport-Club have not been as successful as in previous strong years, but managed to escape a minor results crisis with a 1-0 win in Mainz last weekend. The team from Baden go into next weekend in eighth place in the table (18 points) and nine points clear of the relegation zone. After their performance in Wolfsburg, they also face doable tasks against 1. FC Köln and 1. FC Heidenheim before the winter break.

Full-back Lukas Kübler is back in team training after breaking his toe and is an alternative for the squad. Defender Matthias Ginter, who was substituted in Mainz due to nausea, is also available to Freiburg.
