Soccer - Freiburg talent Merlin Röhl: blood not only in his shoe

High-flyer Merlin Röhl from SC Freiburg probably gets his socks on more often in soccer than many other Bundesliga professionals. There were visible blood stains on the inside of the ankles of the U21 international's socks after his team's 2-0 win against 1. FC Köln on Sunday. "That happens a lot with my long legs. I always get the ball somewhere where the opponent doesn't expect it," explained the 1.91-meter tall attacker - without batting an eyelid.

In such cases, the strong-running Röhl is sometimes caught off guard by the opponent's foot. In Germany's recent 3:1 win over Poland, the 21-year-old even played on with a deep laceration - and scored a goal. Afterwards, however, he had to be stitched up. The former Ingolstadt player is one of the big winners for Freiburg this season.
