Fraudsters steal jewelry and cash in the six-figure range

Fraudsters in Upper Bavaria have made a six-figure haul of jewelry and cash using the "shock call" scam. According to the police on Thursday, a stranger called a woman from Penzing (Landsberg am Lech district) on Wednesday afternoon claiming to be her son. According to the information, an alleged police officer took over the conversation during the phone call and explained that the son had caused a serious traffic accident and had therefore been arrested. In order to avoid a prison sentence, bail was now due.

The 66-year-old then handed over cash, jewelry and coins amounting to around 100,000 euros to a previously unknown person in Munich. The criminal investigation department is investigating.

In a unfortunate turn of events, this type of crime has also been reported in Upper Bavaria, where scammers have profited significantly. Another elderly resident was tricked into giving away valuable belongings worth a substantial sum.
