New York Film Critics Association - Franz Rogowski receives important film award - and can now hope for an Oscar nomination
German actor Franz Rogowski (37, "Undine") has won an award in the USA, boosting his chances in the current trophy competition. The New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) named Rogowski Best Leading Actor for his role in the relationship drama "Passages". The winners in twelve film categories were announced on Thursday.
Last year, Colin Farrell ("The Banshees of Inisherin") won this award and was later also nominated for a leading actor Oscar. Founded in 1935, the NYFCC critics' association's trophies are among the first of the many film award ceremonies in the coming months. The winners are often also among the candidates for the Oscars, which take place in March.
Film with Sandra Hüller honored
The New York critics chose the historical drama "Killers of the Flower Moon" by director Martin Scorsese as the best film. Lead actress Lily Gladstone won Best Actress. The drama "Oppenheimer" also picked up two awards - for director Christopher Nolan and for Best Cinematography.
The French legal drama "Anatomy of a Case" won in the International Film category. German actress Sandra Hüller (45, "Toni Erdmann") plays a writer who is accused of killing her husband in their home. The drama by French director Justine Triet was this year's winning film at the Cannes Festival.
