Local Governments - Frankfurt: Temporary no-fire zone established around fan mile area

During the Upcoming Football European Championship, Frankfurt will implement a temporary ban on weapons at the fan mile by the Main River. This prohibition zone will be effective daily from June 14 to July 15th. People are not allowed to carry weapons, including knives with fixed or foldable blades longer than four centimeters. However, police officers, security personnel, craftsmen, and businesspeople who need to use regulated objects for their jobs are exempt.

This regulation is based on an appeal from EM sites by the Federal Interior Ministry. The Ministry also mentioned the recent knife attack in Mannheim as a reason. In Frankfurt, a woman was stabbed near the Main Riverbank. In response to this, Mayor Mike Josef announced that the city and the state police are working together to prevent such incidents. The new weapons prohibition zone in the Fanzone area will aid in these efforts.

Since November 1, 2021, Frankfurt's Bahnhofsviertel has had a weapons prohibition zone in place. This zone was later extended to include the Frankfurt main station. The purpose of this zone is to allow for random checks. Critics have previously raised concerns of arbitrary checks and potential racial profiling.
