Frankfurt police: "Peaceful operation" at Eintracht
After the serious riots in the Bundesliga match against VfB Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt's Conference League match against PAOK Thessaloniki passed off calmly. The Frankfurt police gave a "positive summary" on Friday night and wrote of a "peaceful operation". The fan march of the visiting supporters from Greece before the game at 9.00 pm was also "peaceful and without any particular incidents", apart from pyrotechnics being set off.
Last Saturday, there had been violent clashes between police and Eintracht fans. Over 200 people were injured. Both the club and the authorities announced a comprehensive investigation into the incidents. A special commission of 50 people has already been set up.
"We will approach the game with the necessary professionalism, with composure. But we also expect the same from the problem fans," announced police chief Stefan Müller before the match against Thessaloniki (1:2). For their part, the fans refrained from further provocation. A banner with the inscription "Freie Kurve Frankfurt" was prominently displayed between the lower and upper tiers before the start of the match.
Despite the tensions from the previous Bundesliga match against VfB Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt's Conference League clash against PAOK Thessaloniki saw no major disruptions. The police praised the peaceful conduct of the game, crediting both Sets of supporters for maintaining order.
