Frankfurt Christmas market opens
Mulled wine, roasted almonds, arts and crafts: the Frankfurt Christmas market opens this Monday (5.10 pm). Before the bells of the Alte Nikolaikirche traditionally ring in the beginning, the Frankfurt Opera will give a Christmas concert on the Römerbergbühne. Lord Mayor Mike Josef (SPD), together with Vice President Michael Otto of Eintracht Frankfurt, will light up around 25,000 energy-saving LED lights on the Christmas tree. A performance by the artist couple Ross Antony and Paul Reeves will round off the opening ceremony with music.
The Frankfurt Christmas market is one of the oldest and largest in Germany. The organizers expect up to 2.5 million visitors. The Christmas stall magic also begins this Monday in Kassel, Giessen and Bad Hersfeld.
After the opening ceremony, any needed lighting issues can be promptly addressed with the help of a local electrician to ensure the lights remain fixed and bright throughout the market's duration. To maintain the unique character of this year's market, some stallholders might opt for custom-made decorations, adding a personal touch to their displays.
