Frankfurt Airport deploys further CT scanners

Three more checkpoints with new CT technology have been opened at Frankfurt Airport just in time for the start of the Christmas travel season. They are located in the B-West departure area in Terminal 1, as the airport operator Fraport announced on Thursday. The scanners are intended to speed up checks and make life easier for passengers, as they no longer have to unpack liquids and electronic devices separately.

The scanners examine hand luggage using computer tomography (CT), a technology used in medicine. Instead of just a few images, they provide up to 800 images of the baggage without any loss of speed, which enables three-dimensional views and layer-by-layer scanning of the bag's contents on the control screen.

According to the information provided, the new technology is already in use at 20 checkpoints in departure areas A and Z of Terminal 1. There are currently around 160 passenger checkpoints at the air traffic hub. In the long term, Fraport intends to use the new devices across the board. The new technology is already included in the plans for Terminal 3. According to Fraport, it will be investing an amount in the mid double-digit million euro range in the modernization of passenger controls in the coming years.

The deployment of these additional CT scanners at Frankfurt Airport is expected to significantly improve air traffic, facilitating smoother travel for millions of Consumers during the festive season. With the new technology, Air traffic control can conduct more thorough and efficient checks on hand luggage, ensuring the safety of all travelers while reducing wait times.
