To those who will not participate in the second round, three candidates from the right-wing party Rassemblement National (RN) are also included. These candidates could expect later support from the candidates they might have helped win the election in the National Assembly.

Former party leader Marine Le Pen had previously announced that her party would also seek government responsibility if they did not receive an absolute majority. She would look for supporters among others, the conservative Republicans.

According to a first forecast, the withdrawal of the candidates could lead to the RN not reaching an absolute majority in the second round. However, this is very difficult to estimate, as voters do not necessarily adhere to electoral recommendations. Moreover, it depends heavily on the turnout.

In the runoff election on the coming Sunday, the seat distribution in the National Assembly will be decided. For an absolute majority, 289 of the 577 seats are required.

Some of these RN candidates might consider withdrawing, which could potentially prevent the party from achieving an absolute majority of 289 seats in the National Assembly. Despite the conservative Republicans being potential supporters for Marine Le Pen's RN, the outcome of the withdrawal and the turnout are highly unpredictable.
