France election: More than 100 candidates withdraw with RN in mind

Three government members have already announced their retirement, among them the Overseas Minister Marie Guevenoux and two State Secretaries. With a high voter turnout, there would have been potential three-way races in about 300 of the 577 constituencies in the second round. Anyone who receives at least 12.5% of the votes of registered voters in the first round qualifies for the second round.

In the upcoming French election, numerous candidates will compete for parliamentary seats. The second round of the election is scheduled for Sunday. According to AFP, more than 300 constituencies could witness three-way races due to a high voter turnout. With at least 12.5% of the votes in the first round, the Right-wing National Rally (RN) candidate in one constituency managed to qualify for the second round, securing a place among the top two contenders. France has 577 constituencies in total.
