Handball Bundesliga - Foxes returnee happy: "Notices what you've missed"
The Füchse Berlin handball team had two reasons to be happy on Saturday evening. Firstly, the Berliners won 32:29 at TBV Lemgo Lippe, but the comeback of captain Paul Drux after his Achilles tendon rupture at the end of April was even more joyous. "We're super happy," said coach Jaron Siewert, who had only extended his contract until 2026 on Thursday together with Head of Sport Stefan Kretzschmar.
And Drux had every reason to beam after the end of his ordeal. "It was really nice throughout. You realize what you've been missing for the last seven and a half months and what you've been working for. It was definitely worth it," said the 28-year-old at Dyn. The captain came on in the 14th minute.
Drux was originally only supposed to play in defense, but was then allowed to play in offense in the second half. "I could already hear the two coaches mumbling and was able to prepare myself," he reported. However, he hadn't expected that. "In this crucial situation, it came as a bit of a surprise," he said.
He had hardly any physical problems during the match. "I actually had a good feeling in training too. My Achilles tendon feels great. The strength is already very good and the docs were satisfied in any case," he reported. However, the right-back is not yet at 100 percent after the long break. "Of course, movement is still a bit restricted, but it can still be that at the moment," he reported.
The Foxes now have two games left before the European Championship break. The team will then start the second half of the season at home in the Max-Schmeling-Halle. On Tuesday against sixteenth-placed TVB Stuttgart (7 p.m.) and on Thursday against SC DHfK Leipzig (8 p.m./both Dyn). Then the Berliners can crown their magnificent first half of the season.
