- Four school children slightly injured in school bus accident
In a collision between a fully occupied school bus and a truck at an intersection in Bruchhausen-Vilsen (Diepholz district), four schoolchildren and the bus driver were lightly injured. Most children got away with a scare, police said. The four lightly injured children, aged between 12 and 15, were treated by rescue services and then taken to hospitals.
The other children were reportedly picked up by parents at the scene or taken home by a replacement bus. In Lower Saxony, school had resumed on Monday after six weeks of summer vacation.
Initial police investigations suggest that the collision occurred when the bus driver attempted to turn left at the intersection and failed to notice the truck. The school bus had to be towed away after the accident. The intersection was closed for about an hour and a half.
After being picked up by their parents or transported home by a replacement bus, the remaining children returned to their homes safely. Despite the shocking incident, the children were eager to attend school the next day in Lower Saxony.
