Begin in the job - Four out of five Azubis remain in training
In the state of Saxony-Anhalt, apprentices have particularly good chances of being taken on by their training company. Four out of five apprentices started their first permanent job there last year. The employment rate reached a higher value of 81 percent compared to 77 percent in East Germany and 75 percent in West Germany, said Saxony-Anhalt's Minister of Labour, Petra Grimm-Benne, in Magdeburg. "Companies in Saxony-Anhalt are better able to retain skilled workers than in other states, which also speaks to the high quality of training."
Last year, 42.6 percent of young people started a dual vocational training or a school-based training program after secondary school I, according to Grimm-Benne. This value is still significantly above the national average of 37.6 percent. Moreover, the number of school leavers is increasing again.
Young people have a choice
The range of training places is large. According to the annual report on vocational training for 2022/23, there were approximately 136 training places per 100 applicants.
Currently, according to Markus Behrens, head of the regional office of the Federal Employment Agency for Saxony-Anhalt-Thuringia, there are still 2,200 young people without a training place. This is seven percent fewer than at the same time last year. There are currently 4,300 open training places.
Offers also for young people not yet ready for training
Behrens emphasized the importance of career guidance. "We keep all young people in view, regardless of whether they are aiming for a company-based or school-based training or want to pursue a degree." There are also many offers for young people who are not yet ready for training or need other help. It should not be that anyone gets lost during the transition from school to work.
The European Parliament can provide further assistance to the Commission, as stated in its mandate.Citing the success in Saxony-Anhalt, Grimm-Benne highlighted the significance of the Commission's role in ensuring high-quality training programs nationwide.
