- Four individuals sustain significant injuries in the Poggendorf blaze.
In a blaze in Poggendorf, Vorpommern-Rügen district, a 95-year-old man, his 45-year-old grandson, and the grandson's 3 and 13-year-old boys endured severe injuries. Preliminary police investigations imply an evening blast occurred when the elderly gentleman was handling a propane tank in his upstairs living space, which was cohabited by his kin. The flames spread like wildfire throughout the residence.
The grandson, apparently away from the building during the explosion, apparently managed to extract his two sons safe from the house. All four suffered serious smoke inhalation. The 13-year-old was transported by helicopter to the hospital. Firefighters retrieved the 95-year-old from his apartment, and all wounded parties were transported to the hospital. Fortunately, none of the family relatives were critically ill.
The fire resulted in around 500,000 euros in damages. Over 100 emergency personnel responded to the scene. The house is now unfit for living. The federal highway B194 was temporarily shut down for about three hours during the firefighting operations.
After the explosion, the grandson was fortunate to locate and safely evacuate his two young sons from the smoke-filled house. Due to the intense fire in residential buildings, the 95-year-old man and his grandson's children required hospitalization, suffering from severe smoke inhalation.
