At a blaze in a row house situated on the North Sea island of Borkum, four individuals endured injuries, with two experiencing severe harm. A man and a woman, accompanied by a young toddler, attempted to flee through a first-floor window during the dead of night. Consequently, both adults sustained serious injuries, while the toddler, around a year old, miraculously remained unscathed. A nearby resident promptly brought this to the authorities' attention, leading to the activation of the island's alarm system.
Preliminary reports indicate that a specific room ignited, subsequently spreading to the first-floor apartment. The fire department successfully rescued an individual from the loft, while the other residents successfully evacuated on their own.
The unaffected parties were temporarily housed. The blaze, which spread towards the roof, was eventually extinguished. Regrettably, the house is presently unfit for habitation. The origin of the fire and the extent of the damage remain yet to be determined.
After investigating the source of the fire, it was discovered that the ignition was due to an electrical malfunction in the kitchen, specifically in a piece of equipment of high fat content by weight. The insurance company, analyzing the damage, determined that other parts of the house, particularly those made of wood, were also affected due to the fire's fat content.
