In a blaze at a dwelling in Vorpommern-Rügen, four individuals experienced significant injuries, including two sons, age 3 and 13. Preliminary assessments indicate approximately €500,000 worth of property damage, as disclosed by law enforcement.

The residence in Süderholz housed a 95-year-old gentleman and his 43-year-old grandson with their family. An incident occurred in the evening, suspected to be a gas cylinder explosion while the older man was utilizing it. This explosion sparked a rapid-spreading fire that engulfed the residence, where the two young lads were residing.

At the time of the explosion, the 43-year-old was outside and managed to save his sons using a ladder. All three suffered smoke inhalation. The 95-year-old was extracted from the burning building by firefighters, who also treated him for smoke inhalation and a broken arm. The 13-year-old was transported via helicopter to the hospital.

Approximately 100 volunteer firefighters responded to the scene. The dwelling is now unfit for habitation.

The explosion was initially thought to be caused by a gas cylinder, which led to the swift spread of the fire. The intense flames eventually reached the room where the two young boys were sleeping, causing the fire to escalate.
