He made four Bundesliga appearances and one DFB Cup game before being sent on loan to 1. FC Nuremberg for 1.5 years (24 games, 3 goals) in January 2021. Borkowski then spent two seasons with Dynamo Dresden.
FC Ingolstadt's managing director, Dietmar Beiersdorfer, spoke highly of the young player, saying, "We've been keeping an eye on Dennis Borkowski for a while.
