Bundesliga 2 - Fortuna Düsseldorf turn the game around at 1 FC Magdeburg

Fortuna Düsseldorf turned around a game they thought they had lost on Saturday and won 3:2 (0:2) at 1. FC Magdeburg in the last game of the first half of the 2nd Bundesliga season. Herbert Bockhorn had put the hosts ahead after 17 minutes and Xavier Amaechi increased the lead after 37 minutes with his first goal of the season in front of 20,647 spectators. Immediately after the restart, Vincent Vermeij scored the equalizer. Shinta Appelkamp (70') took advantage of the ensuing dominance to equalize before Vermeij (75') turned the game around completely.

While Fortuna remain hot on the heels of the leading trio in the league with the win, Magdeburg are stuck in the bottom third of the table. Magdeburg had already lost 2-1 to Düsseldorf at home in the last 16 of the DFB Cup despite taking the lead.

Magdeburg's 2-0 lead at the break was well deserved, as the hosts were very efficient in front of goal. After 0:1, Düsseldorf were off their game, played passively and hardly had any chances. When they did, they resulted from a lack of concentration in Magdeburg's defending.

Fortuna dominated after the break. Magdeburg resorted to counter-attacks, but the visitors had the big chances. Amara Condé (55) had the best chance to equalize when he tipped the ball off the foot of the lurking Christos Tzolis and onto the post. Appelkamp then did better. Magdeburg now made an increasing number of mistakes, one of which Vermeij capitalized on to give Düsseldorf the lead. Magdeburg's final offensive was unsuccessful.
