Former world champion Baur no longer coach of Göppingen in 2024/25
Former handball world champion Markus Baur must leave Frisch Auf Göppingen after the season. The club is looking for a new coach for the 2024/25 season, the Bundesliga club announced on Saturday. The contract with Baur will not be extended.
"We deliberately made this decision at this comparatively early stage in order to create planning security for the future for everyone involved," said sporting director Christian Schöne. Göppingen lost at HC Erlangen (26:28) on Friday evening and is in 16th place in the table after 14 games.
Baur took over as coach at Frisch Auf around a year ago. In the previous season, he had at least led the club to the European League Final Four in a largely disastrous Bundesliga season.
The club had thoroughly analyzed the sporting performances and results of recent weeks and months in the Bundesliga and the future challenges and associated requirements, said Managing Director Gerd Hofele: "Following this process, we decided together with the Supervisory Board that we would also make a change in the coaching position for the coming season."
Göppingen will need to find a new coach for the 2024/25 Bundesliga season, as the contract with former handball world champion Markus Baur will not be extended. Despite Baur leading Göppingen to the European League Final Four in the previous season, the club has decided to make a change in the coaching position due to recent sporting performances and future challenges.
