Financial institutions - Former Postbank leader Frank Strauß passes away.

Frank Strauß, the ex-CEO of Postbank, has passed away. According to an announcement made by Deutsche Bank on Sunday, he died "suddenly and unexpectedly" last week, at the age of 54. Strauß had served as Chairman of the Management Board of Postbank for six years and been a member of Deutsche Bank's Management Board for two years after the merger of Postbank into Deutsche Bank's private client business.

Strauß spent a significant part of his career at the Deutsche Bank Group. After completing his banking apprenticeship in Iserlohn, he moved to Frankfurt in 1995 and held various management roles at Deutsche Bank and its subsidiary, Deutsche Bank 24. In 2006, he became the head of the Private and Business Clients division in the German market.

In 2011, Strauß joined Postbank as the Chief Sales Officer and was promoted to Chairman of the Management Board the following year. From 2017 to 2019, he was a part of the Deutsche Bank Group Management Board and led the Private and Corporate Clients Bank in tandem with Christian Sewing until Sewing's appointment as CEO, at which point Strauß took over the role alone from April 2018.

"Just like many of my colleagues at Deutsche Bank, I am stunned and extremely saddened by the premature death of Frank Strauß," said Sewing in a press release. "During his nearly 30 years at Deutsche Bank and Postbank, he made an exceptional contribution, particularly to our private customer business."
