Former Hertha goalkeeper Jarstein ends his career
Soccer goalkeeper Rune Jarstein is ending his active career. "The 39-year-old former Hertha BSC goalkeeper told Bild on Tuesday that he would not be returning to goal as a professional athlete due to the long "forced break". The 72-time Norwegian international was dismissed in August 2022 after massive criticism of Berlin goalkeeping coach Andreas Menger, and an out-of-court settlement was reached last October after a lengthy legal dispute.
Jarstein moved to Berlin from Viking Stavanger in 2014 and played 179 competitive matches for Hertha. In April 2021, the goalkeeper had to give up his place in goal due to Covid-19. This was followed by myocarditis and a knee ligament. Jarstein wanted to return to the Berlin goal in the 2022/2023 season before his suspension and subsequent dismissal followed.
Despite his desire to return to Hertha BSC's goal in the 2022/2023 Bundesliga 2 season, Jarstein's suspension and subsequent dismissal prevented it. Regrettably, the experienced Soccer player Rune Jarstein, who had previously played for Hertha BSC in Bundesliga 2, has decided to retire from professional soccer due to the long forced break.
