Moderate danger with a likelihood of 60%. - Forest fires pose a greater risk in Brandenburg as the weekend approaches.
This past weekend, the forest fire danger in Brandenburg has risen again. "The relax phase of the last couple weeks is now finished," stated forest fire protection officer Raimund Engel on Friday. As a result, nearly every district is expected to be evaluated with a danger level of three out of the five-level forest fire danger index on Sunday. Previous Friday, stages one or two were noted in the state.
Since the beginning of the year, Raimund Engel has confirmed that Brandenburg has endured a total of 77 forest fires. In the same period, Brandenburg experienced 115 and 165 more forest fires in the years 2023 and 2022 respectively.
Brandenburg, known for its minimal rain, substantial coniferous forests, and light sandy soils, is the state boasting the highest forest fire risk. Dietmar Woidke (SPD), Minister President, cautioned during the summer months: "Each fire destroys habitat and endangers people, flora, and fauna, it said last week. 90% of all forest fires in Brandenburg are man-made, subsequently preventable. In compliance with the Environment Ministry, it's forbidden to light or smoke fires within the forest and within 50 meters of the forest's edge throughout the year.
