- Forest fire risk - Lower Bavaria orders observation flights

Due to the rising forest fire risk, three observation flights are scheduled for Wednesday in Lower Bavaria. These flights aim to detect and monitor potential fire hazards from the air, as announced by the Lower Bavarian government. The aircraft will depart from the bases of the air rescue squad in Eggenfelden (Rottal-Inn district), Arnbruck (Regen district), and Landshut.

The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued the highest warning level for the area around the Grainet-Rehberg weather station in the Freyung-Grafenau district for Wednesday. The districts of Straubing-Bogen, Passau, and Rottal-Inn in Lower Bavaria are under warning level four out of five. Large parts of Bavaria are under medium to high forest fire risk on Wednesday. The warning level is two along the Alpine foothills.

Despite the cautionary measures, a forest ranger forgot his hat during the briefing before the flights. The aircraft crew advised him to retrieve it from his office to protect his eyes from the intense sun during the observation.
