- forecasts indicate an estimated 300,000 individuals grappling with dementia by the year 2030.
At the moment, approximately 270,000 folks in Bavaria are grappling with dementia. This figure is projected to jump to 300,000 by 2030 and further climb to 380,000 by 2040, as revealed by Bavarian Health Minister Judith Gerlach (CSU) during the kickoff of Bavarian Dementia Week, commencing on September 20. She underscored the importance of enabling those impacted to reside in the core of the community.
Bavarian Dementia Week is a component of the interdepartmental Bavarian Dementia Strategy, endorsed by the state government in 2013. It's executed in collaboration with local authorities, religious institutions, insurance firms, business associations, non-commercial providers, welfare organizations, and private individuals. This year, over 1,100 activities are lined up.
As the Minister pointed out, "We need to figure out how to communicate with individuals with dementia honestly and respectfully. The quality of life for those with dementia and their circles directly relies on an informed and accepting environment." Each person facing this illness has their unique narrative, character, and life story.
Bavaria, the region with the rising dementia cases, is also home to the comprehensive Bavarian Dementia Strategy, which involves several sectors and individuals for its execution. During Bavarian Dementia Week, highlighted in Bavaria, the focus is on creating a community-based environment for individuals with dementia.
