Voting processes - For the first time, young people aged 16 can participate in European elections as part of the last round of local polls.

Out of the roughly 1.7 million voters in Thuringia qualified for the European election, around 1.3 million citizens can still make their choice for their district administrator or mayor on Sunday. In fifteen districts and free cities, a second round of voting will take place, while people in the state will also determine the makeup of the European Parliament. The voting stations in Thuringia will be open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Additionally, in some municipalities, there are also runoff elections for mayor's seats.

There's plenty of excitement in Thuringia's state capital, Erfurt, as people wonder if a change in the leadership of the city hall will occur after 18 years with Andreas Bausewein from the SPD. He's up against Andreas Horn from the CDU, who led in the initial rounds of voting. Furthermore, attention is also centered on Landkreis Hildburghausen as a right-wing extremist qualified for the runoff election. The eastern part of Thuringia, specifically Altenburger Land, saw an AfD candidate ahead in the first round of voting as the sole area. AfD candidates advanced to the runoff elections in nine districts.
