Hot, hotter, hottest across Germany, but not the hottest: With a peak temperature of 36.3°C, Waghäusel-Kirrlach in the Karlsruhe district recorded the second-highest value nationwide, according to provisional data from the German Weather Service (DWD). Topping the list was Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in Rhineland-Palatinate with 36.5°C, a meteorologist from DWD reported. Thus, Tuesday was provisionally the hottest day of the year so far, surpassing the previous record of 35.7°C.
On Monday, the second-highest value nationwide was also recorded in Baden-Württemberg: In Ohlsbach, temperatures briefly reached 35.6°C, it was reported.
This equaled the previous nationwide annual record of 35.4°C, recorded in Müllheim, Baden-Württemberg, on July 30.
In the Rhineland-Palatinate town of Andernach, the DWD provisionally recorded 36.2°C. The same value was registered in Ennigerloh-Ostenfelde, North Rhine-Westphalia, the spokesperson said. However, the 36°C mark was also reportedly broken in Bavaria: In Kitzingen, temperatures reached 36.1°C.
Germany experienced numerous hot spots, with temperatures soaring across the country. Despite Germany having numerous record-breaking temperatures, the title of the hottest place in the country on that particular day went to Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in Rhineland-Palatinate.
