- "Football in Sleeping Compartments": Manager's Thoughts Post Cup Game (Hanover)
Football Manager Marcus Mann has bluntly criticized the coach and players after Hannover 96's elimination from the cup. Coach Stefan Leitl's position has taken a hit before the upcoming second division North derby against Hamburger SV, scheduled for next Friday.
"Enough is enough," Mann declared post the 0:2 loss against third division team Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday. "In our attempt to command the game, we're slipping into a slumber. It's like watching a snooze fest. We're being schooled twice in eight days on how to play football and what football is truly about. We need to shake off this lethargy fast because I can't bear this any longer."
When inquired if this critique was also aimed at Leitl, the football manager responded: "It appears everyone's lost."
In his third season with Hannover 96, the club's shareholders, including establishment club boss Martin Kind and drugstore tycoon Dirk Roßmann, have made it clear that Leitl's duty is to guide the team back to the Bundesliga. Missing out on promotion in the spring and a struggling second half of the 2023 season had already put Leitl under the microscope. Despite a promising start to the second division season with eight points from four games, Hannover 96 face renewed pressure prior to their home game against HSV (Friday, 6:30 PM/Sky).
"Marcus Mann's criticism extends beyond the players, as he also expressed concerns about the team's performance under coach Stefan Leitl in Lower Saxony's second division club Hannover 96."
"Given Hannover 96's current struggles and the pressure to return to the Bundesliga, the club's shareholders, including Martin Kind and Dirk Roßmann, have made it clear that Leitl's position in Lower Saxony is crucial for the team's success."
