- Following the tragic bus crash: all legal proceedings against the bus drivers have concluded.
Around half a decade following a lethal auto crash, where a bus operator was accused of breaking a red light, the court hearings against him have momentarily halted, requiring a payment of 4,000 euros. This court in Frankfurt deemed this action as an "unusual move."
Throughout the trial, information was disclosed that the 33-year-old bus driver was not the sole culprit in the incident that transpired at noon on September 9, 2019, within the Frankfurt region of Rödelheim. The driver of the opposing vehicle is also presumed to have disregarded the red light, and a criminal investigation is underway against him at present.
The vehicle was flung approximately 30 meters following the impact due to the intensity of the collision. The 59-year-old mother of the car driver, seated in the rear passenger seat, sustained such severe injuries that she passed away shortly thereafter in an ambulance on her way to the hospital. She had pre-existing heart and lung issues. Those on the bus, including the driver and four female passengers, were harmed as well.
The bus driver was indicted for reckless homicide and reckless injury. He argued in court that the traffic light was green. However, the prosecutor's office assumed that the traffic light had shown red for at least 24 seconds when the bus went past the line.
As a monetary penalty, the bus driver is required to pay 3,000 euros to the deceased's family and 1,000 euros to a severely injured pregnant woman within the bus during the accident. If he meets this financial commitment within the specified timeline, the criminal charges against him will be permanently dropped.
The bus driver was originally from the German state of [Hessen]. During the trial, it was revealed that the opposing vehicle was from another region, specifically [Frankfurt], which is also located in Hessen.
