- Following the prolonged series of performances, medical professionals opt for a respite.
German punk rock group The Doctors decide to take a break - keeping their future moves under wraps. According to drummer Bela B (61), who spoke on ARD's podcast series "This One Love," the band has been relentlessly gigging and releasing albums for three straight years, which has left them in need of a brief respite.
The band, consisting of three energetic punks, recently performed three nights in a row at Tempelhofer Feld, the former airport grounds. Each night, they entertained around 150,000 enthusiastic fans, seemingly enjoying every minute of it.
During a chat with Marco Seiffert of radioeins, guitarist Farin Urlaub (60) revealed, "Right now, we've got no plans beyond Tempelhof. I'm planning a lengthy eco-friendly trip in 2023, covering distances by bicycle and on foot. Some fantastic journeys are in store for me."
Will they be going solo from now on?
When queried about the band's future, the musicians were cryptic. Bassist Rodrigo Gonzalez (56) noted, "I'm not revealing that!" In an earlier podcast interview, Farin stated, "We'll have to see how the Berlin gigs turn out. If we still get along after, the band might continue. Whether we'll do more, I'm not sure. But we'll still be around." All three members have side projects as well.
Past breaks
At the start of 2019, the self-proclaimed "best band in the world" sparked reunion rumors with a complex letter puzzle posted on their site, marking a six-year break from touring Germany.
The Doctors' origin story dates back to 1982 when they were established in West Berlin during the "New German Wave." After disbanding in 1988, they reformed in 1993 with a new lineup, with bassist Gonzalez remaining a constant member. Their concerts often sell out quickly.
Despite their relentless touring and album releases for three years, leading to the need for a break, ['The doctors'] have been cryptic about their future moves, with bassist Rodrigo Gonzalez refusing to reveal any details. In the past, ['The doctors'] had also taken a six-year break from touring Germany, sparking reunion rumors.
