The police officer met his demise on Sunday afternoon, two days after he was brutally attacked with a knife on the Mannheim market square. According to the prosecutor's office in Karlsruhe, Mannheim police headquarters, and the state criminal police office, the suspect had repeatedly stabbed the 29-year-old policeman in the head. This was earlier on Friday. Although the reason behind the attack remains unknown, the 25-year-old assailant, who came to Germany as a teenager from Afghanistan in 2014, too sustained injuries during the chaotic moments following the assault.
