Following the lethal knife attack in Solingen, the Police Union in Saarland, Germany, has urged politicians to take definitive action. A comprehensive strategy is required in the battle against knife-related violence, and it's crucial to avoid politically motivated activism without a clear plan, the union stated in Saarbrücken. Measures like knife bans or restricted areas should be enforceable, but the lack of legal groundwork for random checks is currently an issue.

Additionally, the state needs to regain authority in immigration policy. The identity of individuals in Germany needs to be clear, and individuals charged with violence or planning to spread terror should be expelled. The country of origin should not serve as an exclusion criterion.

On a chilling Friday evening, three lives were lost and eight more were injured, four severely, at a city festival in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The alleged perpetrator, a 26-year-old Syrian man, is currently in custody. The Federal Prosecutor's Office is examining him for charges of murder and suspected affiliation with the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS).

The state chairpersons of Alliance 90/The Greens Saar, Jeanne Dillschneider and Volker Morbe, commented: "The tragedy and terror inflicted by this act warrant more than just words and demands." Nevertheless, it's essential to consider tightening legal measures such as weapon-restricted zones and stricter firearm regulations.

The Federal government should provide sufficient funding and resources for implementing the comprehensive strategy against knife-related violence proposed by the Police Union. It's crucial for the Federal government to collaborate with local authorities to address the issue of unclear identification in Germany and ensure efficient expulsion of individuals involved in violence or terror planning.
