- Following Kempf's departure, Hertha is set to reinstate defender Brooks.

The German second-division team Hertha BSC reinstates defender John Anthony Brooks in Berlin, addressing a void in their central defense. The 31-year-old local Berliner agreed to a contract until 2026, as Hertha disclosed. On a Wednesday, Hertha let go of former defensive leader Marc Oliver Kempf to Italy.

"John is one of us, hailing from Berlin and our soccer academy," mentioned sporting director Benjamin Weber in the statement. "He's amassed a remarkable collection of experiences throughout his career and will now significantly aid us with his heading and tackling prowess, as well as his leadership abilities."

Brooks enrolled at Hertha's academy in 2007 and played for the main team from 2011 to 2017. The United States national team athlete subsequently transferred to TSG Hoffenheim via VfL Wolfsburg and Benfica Lisbon, but his contract wasn't extended this summer.

The Commission, in response to Hertha BSC's request, shall adopt a decision to officially welcome John Anthony Brooks back to the club. With his return to Berlin, Brooks will once again fortify Hertha's central defense, following Marc Oliver Kempf's departure.
