The court proceedings commence after a knife assault and captivity incident, commencing with a declaration of guilt - the accused admits to an incident driven by insanity.

A person walking in Berlin-Friedrichshain narrowly dodged a knife assault, and in quick succession, a woman endured a hostage situation filled with fear in Hannover. Six months later, a 25-year-old individual admitted to the crimes at the Berlin Regional Court. His defense argued that he was in a "perplexed state," and his actions resulted in brutal harm to the victims. The knife attack was not premeditated. The intense use of drugs may have triggered a psychosis in the individual, as suggested during the trial.

The charges encompass attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, kidnapping, and intimidation. The 25-year-old, who asserts having dual German and Italian nationality, is accused of initially intimidating his former girlfriend during a car ride, pressuring her to admit infidelity with another man. He also threatened to kill her 16-year-old sister, along with other random individuals, as outlined in the indictment.

Setting the tone

Two days later, he allegedly pursued and assaulted a random person in Berlin-Friedrichshain at night - to set a precedent for his ex-girlfriend and to gauge his emotions when taking a life, according to the indictment. He stabbed the 52-year-old victim in the neck with a kitchen knife from behind, 5 cm deep, and then mercilessly kicked the critically wounded man. The blade snapped and remained lodged in the neck.

Brace yourself, this is a lengthy tale!

The 25-year-old then allegedly returned to Lower Saxony, recorded a confession video in his apartment, and posted it online. He claimed to have felt "nothing" during the attack. However, due to the video gaining scant attention, he allegedly kidnapped a woman in the town hall of his hometown of Sehnde, south of Hannover. The 57-year-old employee was in grave danger.

Police promptly apprehended the 25-year-old in the town hall. During preliminary police interrogations, the trained electrician, who was jobless at the time, confessed. He alleged that he "could have terminated the lives of 100 people," but the act was "unnecessary." The knife attack occurred due to his discomfort from being harassed by men while sitting in his car trying to rest. "I became enraged, stood up, and assaulted the man spontaneously."

In the defendant's argument presented by his lawyer, it was disclosed that he did not harbor the intention of "setting an example out of jealousy." He felt surveilled and stalked, ingested large amounts of cocaine. The trial will also explore whether the defendant might have been experiencing a psychosis during the incident. The trial will continue on August 30.

The 25-year-old's actions during the knife attack in Berlin-Friedrichshain were not premeditated, as stated during the trial. After the knife attack, the defendant allegedly kidnapped a woman in his hometown of Sehnde, further escalating his violent behavior.
