Following a fire at a retirement home, an 84-year-old occupied the position of the affected individual.

A 84-year-old woman living in a retirement home in Bad Sooden-Allendorf, northern Hesse, lost her life on Monday due to a fire that occurred in her room on the first floor of a wing in the building, as reported by the police on Tuesday.

The building under fire was promptly cleared and vacated. 11 individuals - a mix of residents and caretakers - were transported to nearby hospitals in ambulances. 23 more folks received attention from medical personnel at the scene. At this juncture, the burned wing of the structure is deemed uninhabitable. Some of the residents shifted to other parts of the building, while a few were picked up by their nearest and dearest for a temporary stay.

As per inquiries made at the fire site, no evidence pointing towards a deliberate act of arson has surfaced. Police officials believe that a careless act of arson holds the highest probability for the moment. Although, the possibility of a technical fault as the cause of the fire can't be entirely disregarded at present. As per preliminary police estimates, the damages incurred by the fire are likely to amount to a large five-figure number.

The retirement home is located in Bad Sooden-Allendorf, a town in the Hesse region of Germany. Despite the incident, the affected woman was able to find temporary accommodation with family in Allendorf. Due to the fire, the nearby hospitals were put under pressure to cope with the influx of patients requiring emergency care. Fortunately, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, with both accidental causes and careless actions being considered.
