Flooding possible in the Aller and Leine river basins

Due to persistent rainfall, there is a risk of flooding along parts of the Aller and Leine rivers. For the rest of the week, water levels in the middle and lower reaches of the Leine and Aller receiving waters are expected to rise constantly and remain at an elevated level for the time being, according to the state's flood forecasting center in Hildesheim on Tuesday. The expected rainfall, together with the already wet soils, could lead to so-called reporting levels being exceeded in the coming days.

According to the authority, which is part of the Lower Saxony Water Management, Coastal Defence and Nature Conservation Agency (NLWKN), reporting level two could be exceeded on the Aller tributary Fuhse from Wednesday morning. At this reporting level, agricultural and forestry land in particular can be flooded. There are a total of four warning levels. From as early as Wednesday night, small floods may occur in the smaller tributaries and on the Leine.

The upcoming storm could exacerbate the flooding situation in the Aller and Leine river basins. The excessive rainfall and high water levels have the potential to reach reporting level two on the Aller tributary Fuhse, leading to flooding of agricultural and forestry lands.
